Eva Marie went in or the Diva Search when she graduated from college with a business degree. Her parents were hesitant about her not getting a “real job” right away, but they were supportive of their daughters aspirations. That turns out to be the right move, because WWE didn’t want to let her go when she came in for that audition.

Shortly after Eva Marie auditioned, WWE was casting for Total Divas. They offered her an audition on that show and she nailed the tryout. As she explained to the Mikhaila Peterson Podcast, those in charge of the Total Divas production then informed her just how much her life was about to change.

“[In the audition] there was a green screen, and you sit down and basically are getting hammered a million questions,” Marie remembered. “[Questions] like ‘How [was] it growing up? What’s your family like? This that and the other.’ And it was for Total Divas, which was the reality show. So the producer at the time told me ‘Hey, just so you know, this project is moving really, really fast. If you do get this your life could change in the next 72 hours.’

“I called my now-husband and I’m like ‘Hey, I think I just smashed this out of the park. They said that things can move really quickly.’ So we jump in the car and drive up north. We drive up to my parents, my parents get to meet my now-husband. Then he asks for my dad’s blessing to marry me. And I get a call 24 hours later saying I got the gig.”

“I’m on a flight to WrestleMania on Monday. Not only am I now on the main roster of WWE, which is Monday Night Raw, but I’m also on Total Divas, which airs on the E! Network. [Just] like that.”

Eva Marie was unknown to the WWE fans until Total Divas. That was an introduction that she needed as the WWE Universe got to know Eva Marie before All Red Everything was even a thing on the main roster. Eva Marie stayed with Total Divas until her exit from WWE in 2017, but the show didn’t air in 2020 and it’s unknown if it will come back at this point.

Total Divas was an important show and it ran for nine seasons. Eva Marie also credited the reality television show for getting so many people interested in women’s wrestling. We’re not sure how true that is, but it didn’t hurt matters.
