The Wednesday Night Wars between WWE and AEW started back in October 2019 as AEW Dynamite and NXT competed against each other on a weekly basis in order to determine which was the better performing show.

AEW Dynamite would win in the ratings war for the majority of the time until the Wars ended NXT moved to Tuesday nights last month. This was met with a lot of positive reception from fans.

While speaking to Jimmy Varsallone, WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross talked about WWE deciding to move NXT to Tuesdays. Ross stated that WWE probably got tired of getting beaten by AEW in TV ratings every week.

“It was obvious, WWE goes on Wednesdays, head-to-head with us, in hopes it would hurt our growth. It didn’t happen. They probably got tired of getting their ass beat every week. They have a lot of stroke with USA, so they made a move.

It helped them and they have more viewers, we have more viewers, and fans don’t have to make a decision. If it’s fan-friendly, it’s a good move. We have to protect our greatest assets (the fans).”

With the end of the Wars, both NXT and AEW have benefitted from better ratings and are actively trying to actively improve their product as a whole.
