WWE released ten Superstars from their contracts on April 15th, one year removed from the company’s last set of mass releases.

Many fans wondered why WWE released the people that they did. We previously reported on Billie Kay’s example specifically as Kevin Dunn didn’t “get” her. Each Superstar was released for pretty much the same reason, because WWE didn’t have anything for them.

“The idea was to get rid of people they weren’t using,” Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. Apart from Samoa Joe and Billie Kay, every one of the ten WWE releases were absent from television in recent memory.

Samoa Joe was just on commentary during WrestleMania weekend. It’s unknown why he was pulled from the announce table, but he was not cleared for return to the ring at the time of his release. Perhaps, if he would have received medical clearance things might have been different for Joe.

As of this writing, WWE has not released any NXT Superstars. That rumor was very strong on Thursday afternoon, but it hasn’t happened yet.
