WWE is operated at Vince McMahon’s whim, and he likes to have people around him who say what he wants to hear.

WWE brought back John Laurinaitis in a talent relations role. He will now have a huge role backstage that he hasn’t held in nearly a decade. There is a reason for that.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon is surrounding himself with people who will tell him that everything is going great. He doesn’t want to hear that anything is bad in the company, thus why Johnny Ace was brought back. This is the same reason why he has Bruce Prichard around.

It was described that Laurinaitis always has a smile for Vince and won’t challenge him, and like with the hiring of Bruce Prichard, Vince is right now a guy who wants to be told everything is great, which is funny because he’s so much not the old Vince in that way. So he’s more and more surrounding himself with people who won’t challenge him and will feed the idea the company is more popular than ever and television ratings don’t mean what they used to.

Vince McMahon also instated a system backstage that blocks the flow of information. Producers were urged not to share storyline information with Superstars and writers must seek permission before saying anything about plans as well. The morale backstage is also starting to show on screen, but as long as Vince McMahon is told that everything is fine then it must be okay by him.
