WWE held their Elimination Chamber pay-per-view which ended with The Miz as WWE Champion. This was greatly assisted by Bobby Lashley who roughed up Drew McIntyre before The Miz came down for the win. One thing about the event had to happen in order for that ending to make sense.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed WWE’s decision making process heading into Elimination Chamber. Keith Lee was out of the US Title match, but they needed to replace him. Things wouldn’t have worked out at all with their plans for the event’s conclusion unless the US Title match was a triple threat match.

“Now you know why they didn’t do a singles match and why they were adamant about it because Keith Lee not being in it made a singles match, but that just wouldn’t work for what they were trying to do, so that’s why they had to get Morrison in the match, or somebody. Could have been anyone in that third man spot, because they needed.”

It’s possible that Keith Lee was going to win the United States Title if he was in the match, but it went to Riddle. WWE needed to get the title off of Bobby Lashley to set him up for bigger things and not have him lose in the process.

Bobby Lashley later commented on his actions against Drew McIntyre by simply saying “business.” It was all about green and likely a future title opportunity for the CEO of the Hurt Business.
