R-Truth gave WWE fans quite a scare when his match against Damian Priest suddenly came to an end on SmackDown. The veteran wrestler appeared to suffer a legitimate injury during the October 16 episode, forcing the referee to stop the match before its planned finish. Now, there’s finally some encouraging news about his condition, although he’s not completely out of the woods just yet.
According to Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez, Truth appears to be doing all right following the incident. However, he’ll still need to undergo an evaluation next week before there’s a clearer picture of his condition.
Alvarez shared the update on Twitter on October 18, explaining that he didn’t have any additional details about the injury.
“Don’t have any details other than Truth appears to be all right and will be evaluated next week. All the best to him on a quick recovery.”
The update comes after R-Truth was legitimately injured during his match against Damian Priest on Friday’s SmackDown. The scary moment happened after Priest went face-first into the ring post and Truth connected with a missile dropkick from the top rope. Truth landed awkwardly after delivering the move, prompting the referee to immediately check on him.
Rather than allowing the match to continue, the referee called for the bell, and Priest was declared the winner. According to earlier reports, the injury was legitimate, and the match didn’t end the way WWE originally planned. Priest even brought a steel chair into the ring afterward before Fraxiom came out to help Truth.
The match was supposed to be another chapter in the heated rivalry between the former tag team partners. Priest turned on R-Truth during the September 11 episode of SmackDown after they failed to capture the AAA World Tag Team Championships from the War Raiders.
The two had previously enjoyed a 147-day reign as WWE Tag Team Champions before losing the titles to Talla Tonga and Tama Tonga on August 14. Things got even uglier when Priest attacked Truth at the WWE Performance Center on September 24, making it clear that their friendship was finished.
Friday’s match was supposed to give Truth an opportunity to get some revenge, but the legitimate injury brought everything to an unexpected halt. The good news is that Truth appears to have avoided an immediately obvious serious setback. However, Alvarez’s update doesn’t confirm that he’s medically cleared, and there’s still no word on exactly what he injured or whether he’ll need to miss additional time.
For now, WWE fans can at least take some comfort in hearing that R-Truth appears to be doing okay. After watching his match end so suddenly, that’s certainly better news than many were expecting. The real answers should come once he’s evaluated next week, and hopefully this won’t turn into another lengthy absence from WWE television.
