WWE couldn’t get Matt Hardy to stay, and now Hardy is in AEW with his complex arsenal of characters. Zenith is no longer living within Broken Matt as his essence, but Damascus’ entry into Hardy’s body created a complex character thousands of years in the making.

Matt Hardy recently spoke to CBS Sports Radio. He said his character in AEW will see different versions of himself. He also plans to create the most layered persona in pro wrestling history.

“You’re going to see many different versions of Matt Hardy. I am looking to create the most layered wrestling character ever right now.”

When asked how he workshops characters, Hardy has his own method.

“I’ll be honest a lot of the times like with Broken Matt Hardy a lot of it works best when I’m speaking with my opponent and they don’t even know what’s coming you get more of a natural reaction because he says a lot of absurd stuff. He says ridiculous stuff. He says stuff that is controversial by using language in ways that it’s not used a lot. So, that’s one of the fun parts for me I think.”

“Like when I was with Chris Jericho and we were in the ring together and I called him ‘a hole of the ass’ — I mean he almost lost it because he wasn’t expecting that. Hearing that term like that got him on the inside and we got a very natural reaction where you could see his face tense up in the shot.”

Chris Jericho murdered Vanguard 1 on AEW Dynamite last week. Jericho had the help of the Inner Circle’s newest member: a baseball bat named Floyd.

Hardy and Jericho’s wars in AEW are far from over. The two will be a part of the Stadium Stampede Match at Double Or Nothing on May 23rd. Let’s see if Matt Hardy can crack off any one-liners in the meantime to catch Jericho off guard.
