Sting’s upcoming WWE action figure was pulled from Mattel’s Legends line. A lot of collectors were waiting to scratch that figure itch with the Stinger, but now they’re pretty bummed. The story goes deeper from there.

It was later reported that Sting is no longer under WWE contract. This was a very interesting development. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter also noted that they asked AEW if anything is going on with Sting. Their silence might have spoken volumes in this situation.

The reason for this is that Sting no longer has a merchandising contract with WWE. This has coupled with Sting starting to tweet AEW things. That also would indicate no longer being under contract with WWE. Cody tweeted something like he heard something. As far as AEW goes, this is what I can say. I’ve asked and gotten no response to the question and if there was nothing going on the odds are I’d be told there was nothing going on

There was a rumor that Sting and WWE were very close to working out a deal for a Royal Rumble appearance. This could have set up a match in Saudi Arabia. Sting didn’t appear at the Royal Rumble, but you can never say never about AEW.

AEW pulled a pretty big power play when they announced Mike Tyson for a Double Or Nothing appearance. Bringing Sting in isn’t out of the picture if they can throw down the kind of money Iron Mike Tyson needs.

What kind of role do you think Sting would play in AEW? Sound off in the comments below!
