WWE told their employees that if they don’t feel comfortable making television tapings in the middle of a pandemic then they are okay to stay at home. Sami Zayn took WWE up on that offer and now he is no longer Intercontinental Champion.

Ringside News exclusively reported that Zayn wouldn’t be back for long time. We also reported that he has been a bit of an issue backstage. Now that he is no longer IC Champion, this situation is still irking people backstage.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that nobody will say it publicly, but “a lot” of unhappiness is revolving around the fact that Sami Zayn took WWE up on their offer to stay home.

Even though nobody can say it publicly for obvious reasons, there is a lot of unhappiness that Zayn exercised the option that they gave everyone regarding not wrestling if you don’t want to right now. I mean, the IC title doesn’t mean much and we’re long past the period of taking titles too seriously and they can do whatever they want. The tournament will start on the 5/15 Smackdown show

WWE will now determine a new champion. This is interesting considering how it is different from how WWE handled Jordan Devlin and Pete Dunne’s situation. Neither Devlin or Dunne made the decision to no-show because the are unable to make the WWE tapings due to being stuck in the UK during this time.
