Heath Slater was among the names WWE released on April 15th. It was sad day for the company as they still grind away through a pandemic. Now Slater is on his own, and following his 90-day non-compete clause he’s ready to take on the world.

Slater recently spoke to Lilian Garcia on Chasing Glory. He stated that he “needed” to be released from WWE. Right now times are crazy as everyone adjusts. Slater is hungrier than ever to make the most of his career after WWE.

“Getting fired, I really believe I needed this. The times are crazy, the times are weird now because you can’t go out and make money and all that stuff. But I really believe I needed this to get the fire, get the hunger, focus. I can honestly tell you that out of the last four to five years, besides me and Terry [Rhino] winning the tag titles which was an awesome little run, I have been so burned out and just not even really caring. To where this happened, to where I have to say thank you for lighting that fire for me again. Giving me that, ‘Oh, what? I’m gone, so I can spread my wings and fly a little bit?’”

Cody Rhodes already confirmed that AEW isn’t interested in signing Heath Slater.

Following his release from WWE, Slater said in video statement that he will return even better than ever. His plan could be to go full circle much like his 3MB stablemates Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal. Both McIntyre and Mahal were released from WWE only to make returns and become World Champion.
