Vince McMahon dropped a bombshell during the 2019 fourth quarter investors call. He said that WWE was talking to some major players about buying their pay-per-view rights.

WWE content was said to be something that major players were “clamoring for.” McMahon even said that they are far enough along in a deal that we should hear about it this quarter. The 1st quarter of 2020 is almost up, and so far we haven’t heard anything.

The company quietly started promoting that WrestleMania 36 will be on the WWE Network. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that WWE is still trying to sell their pay-per-view streaming rights. The deal obviously isn’t coming together as quickly as McMahon had hoped.

WWE is still in talks with people regarding a PPV deal. They’ve announced WrestleMania as being on the network which would indicate the belief they aren’t close enough on the deal to not make that announcement. The only thing we’ve heard is WWE is seeking a very high number for the deal

WrestleMania 36 itself is now up in the air. The coronavirus might cause them to postpone the show of show. Tampa officials will meet once again next week to approach that idea.

At this time WWE is still looking to sell their streaming rights. They likely won’t have anything in place by April 5th.
