Tyson Fury defeated Braun Strowman at WWE Crown Jewel via count out, but he almost had a different opponent.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that WWE’s original plan for Crown Jewel was to have Tyson Fury face Brock Lesnar at the Saudi Arabian show. It is reported that the match was “discussed,” but they obviously went with Cain Velasquez once that deal was made.

According to those internally, Lesnar vs. Fury was discussed but never got past early discussions, likely due to Velasquez having the storyline from the past and being the bigger star in the U.S. market.

Cain Velasquez is a bigger name in the US market, but he also needs surgery. This is the reason why his match against Brock Lesnar was so short in the first place.

Tyson Fury seemed to enjoy his experience in a WWE ring, but it’s likely that he’ll move back to the boxing world now to focus on his next fight in February.
