WWE made four title changes at Extreme Rules. It turns out that one of those changes where Daniel Bryan and Rowan dropped their titles was done to possibly get Bryan back on track as a singles star.

We previously reported that Bayley was always supposed to win the title upon her move to SmackDown. The way they did it made sense too because she beat Charlotte Flair at MITB after Flair had just beat Becky Lynch. If Bayley would have defeated Lynch she would have been destroyed by the crowd, but instead, she got to take the title off the woman who just screwed over The Man.

Dave Meltzer continued to note on Wrestling Observer Radio that another change could be coming that would get WWE back to their previous direction for Daniel Bryan. Because the only reason he was in an actual tag team with Rowan was because WWE had already filled his top heel role with Kevin Owens after WrestleMania when Bryan was injured and nobody was sure of the severity.

“You know Daniel Bryan was gonna be a singles guy and then he was out and then when he came back his spot was taken [by Kevin Owens] and then they put him with Rowan. I mean, Rowan was gonna be with him, but they weren’t gonna be a tag team and you know, tag team champions. They were supposed to be singles. So, that’s interesting.”

Daniel Bryan strongly hinted that change is coming for him. We’ll have to wait and see what is in store for the New New Daniel Bryan, but he might not be tagging with Rowan at this point.
