Randy Orton and Rey Mysterio hadn’t wrestled since WWE Crown Jewel last month, but it had been twelve years since Mysterio and Orton faced each other in the ring on SmackDown.
Before their match got going, both Mysterio had the chance to cut promos backstage and Orton really seemed to focus on Mysterio’s mask during his time to talk.
Orton focused on Rey and his mask during their contest. He went for Mysterio’s legendary mask a couple of times and the second attempt saw him tearing at Rey’s eyehole creating quite a rip.
Mysterio ended up catching two RKOs during his match against Orton, and the first one was pretty stellar as Orton caught him out of mid-air while Mysterio went for a suicide baseball slide to the outside of the ring.
But after the match was over, Orton wasn’t done by a long shot. Rey grabbed a chair and wrapped it around Mysterio’s neck before smashing it against the ring post, but all of that activity caused Mysterio’s mask to come flying off exposing his face for a very short time on camera.
SmackDown Live concluded this week with Randy Orton holding Mysterio’s mask above his own head while fans pleaded with him to give it back. Referees rushed to ringside to not only check on Rey but conceal his face as well.
