CM Punk walked out of WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble event. Fans couldn’t believe it when his walkout took place but nearly five years later and one lawsuit out of the way between the two sides which Punk won and it’s pretty easy to believe.
WWE Fans chant Punk’s name to show a universal disapproval of WWE’s writing or whatever happens to be going on in the ring. But the chant might go even deeper than that because they also honestly want to see him make a return to the ring.
CM Punk recently spoke to the Associated Press where he was asked what he thought about fans still chanting his name at WWE events. If anything, it seemed to mean something to Punk that the fans are still chanting for him five years later.

“You stop it and five years later people still talk about you? Fans still chant your name? That’s powerful to me.”

If I were a betting man CM Punk and WWE will be at odds for a very long time. But if the way that Vince McMahon and Ultimate Warrior were able to patch things up tells us anything it’s that you can never say never in pro wrestling, especially in WWE.
