Jim Ross’ deal with WWE is a tricky one but it’s unique in the way that they allowed him to continue working for New Japan Pro Wrestling and AXS TV. But as we previously reported WWE isn’t letting him continue after 2018 is over because Ross’ AXS deal is done and WWE won’t let him sign a new one. But since Ross’ WWE contract runs out in April, it leaves a slew of unanswered questions.
Dave Meltzer discussed Jim Ross’ situation on Wrestling Observer Radio where he gave some details about what Ross and NJPW might do in the meantime. In all reality, Jim Ross’ days with AXS TV might be numbered and there is a possibility he could be done with the company very soon.

“I believe that Jim Ross will be doing the next, him and Barnette may be doing one more taping and then that will be it. Then he’s going to be gone at least until April. He may be gone, I don’t know. I don’t know who’s going to replace them. Could be Kevin Kelly I suppose, they could just go with the original New Japan commentary instead of doing the studio stuff.”

Only time will tell what is next for Jim Ross at this point in his career. After all, he is a WWE Hall Of Famer and still has the skills to announce a slobberknocker of a match. But contracts can be tricky, especially if there are rumors floating around out there that JR could have some very exciting things in store for 2019.
