WWE.com gave fans a weird little flashback on September 21 when the entire website suddenly went offline — and the message left behind was somehow stranger than the outage itself. Instead of a normal maintenance notice, WWE’s error page started directing fans to the WWE Network, a service that hasn’t been the company’s main streaming home in years.
Anyone trying to load WWE.com during the outage was greeted with an old-school message telling them to head over to WWE Network if they wanted to keep watching programming.
“WWE.COM IS CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES. TO STREAM WWE PROGRAMMING NOW ON WWE NETWORK VISIT WATCH.WWE.COM »”
That immediately stood out because WWE’s streaming setup has changed dramatically over the years. Depending on where fans live, WWE programming is now spread across Netflix, Peacock, ESPN and other regional partners, making the WWE Network reference look like somebody dug an emergency page out of a digital time capsule. Some users also got a much uglier backend error instead of the WWE Network message.

The error pointed to WWE’s servers failing to properly handle requests, and for a short stretch, the company’s main website was basically dead in the water. The outage didn’t last long, though, because WWE.com was back online roughly 15 to 20 minutes later and appears to be functioning normally again.
So whatever went wrong, it was apparently a short-lived technical mess rather than some major extended shutdown. WWE has not issued any public statement explaining what caused the outage or why an outdated WWE Network message was still sitting there waiting to greet fans when the site went down.
