WWE still hasn’t locked down a date for the John Cena Classic, but the calendar is starting to get pretty crowded. Two dates are apparently still in play for December, while another option has now basically been crossed off the list.

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE still hasn’t decided whether the John Cena Classic will happen on December 12 or December 19. Cena has already confirmed the event is coming in December, but exactly where it lands remains up in the air.

“As for the rumored John Cena Classic — which Cena himself has said will take place in December — a source couldn’t confirm whether the event is more likely to follow WrestlePalooza on December 12 with a stateside event that evening or take place the following weekend on December 19 — which would put it up against AEW Worlds End, as well as AAA Guerra De Titanes later that same evening.”

December 12 would make for one seriously loaded day. WWE could hold WrestlePalooza overseas earlier in the day before following it up with the John Cena Classic back in the United States that evening. December 19 would be a very different story. That date would put Cena’s event directly against AEW Worlds End, while AAA Guerra De Titanes is also scheduled for later that night.

There is at least one December date that WWE apparently isn’t too interested in. December 5 isn’t considered a likely option because the company doesn’t want to load up its schedule with major events on three straight weekends.

“One source from WWE noted that Saturday, December 5 is not likely an option, as the company doesn’t want to present major events on three consecutive weekends. Meanwhile, December 26 is already on the calendar for WWE, as they’re set to host their annual holiday show at Madison Square Garden.”

That also leaves December 26 effectively occupied by WWE’s annual holiday show at Madison Square Garden. For now, December 12 and December 19 remain the two dates worth watching. There’s also another interesting piece of the puzzle that has nothing to do with the calendar. Cena apparently still wants fans to have some kind of say in what happens at the event.

“Additionally, a source noted that the voting aspect of the event is still something that John Cena would like to see happen. We’re told that several ideas have been floated internally to make that a possibility.”

That voting element hasn’t been finalized either, but WWE is kicking around multiple ideas to make Cena’s vision work. Exactly what fans would be voting on wasn’t specified in the latest report.

WWE clearly has some decisions to make before the John Cena Classic is ready for primetime. Between potentially creating a massive doubleheader on December 12, jumping into an already packed December 19 and figuring out Cena’s fan-voting idea, there’s still quite a bit left to settle before the event becomes official.

What do you think WWE should do with the John Cena Classic, including the date and John Cena’s idea to involve fan voting? Let us know in the comments below.
