WWE fans hoping the recent tension between Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns is leading to a Summer bout may need to keep their expectations in check.

During a Q&A session, WrestleVotes was asked whether WWE has plans for Cody vs. Roman this year, especially during the summer, after their recent backstage staredown. WrestleVotes said that, as of now, WWE has no summer plans for the match.

“To answer your question about Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns, I have been told there are no plans to do that match in the summer at all.”

This comes after WWE shared footage of Cody and Roman crossing paths backstage after Clash in Italy. Reigns walked out of his locker room and came face-to-face with Rhodes, leading to a silent but tense staredown before Cody walked away.

The moment came after Rhodes responded to a Bloodline-related shot that was heard as Clash in Italy went off the air. Someone could be heard saying, “f*ck a QB1, it’s all about the Tribal Chief,” which was clearly aimed at Cody. Rhodes later addressed the comment during the post-show panel and made it clear he has no problem facing Roman again.

“I think it’s a unique position to be in to say something negative or for him to say something negative about me, and it’s for the simple fact that I don’t have two wins over him and he doesn’t have two wins over me. He beat me once and I beat his ass once. So, I don’t know, add him to the list along with GUNTHER. I’m easy to find but hard to beat that goes for Roman Reigns as well.”

These moments immediately led to speculation that WWE could be moving back toward one of its biggest rivalries. However, this latest update suggests fans should not expect Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns to headline the summer schedule.

WWE has revisited the Cody-Roman rivalry multiple times through subtle interactions and references since Rhodes finally dethroned Reigns at WrestleMania 40. Those moments have kept interest alive, but it looks like the company is continuing to hold off on pulling the trigger on another one-on-one match for now.
