The WWE shareholder lawsuit just took a sudden turn.

The trial was scheduled to begin Monday in the Delaware Court of Chancery, but it was removed from the schedule for reasons that have not been made public.

That does not confirm what happened behind the scenes. It could mean the two sides are working on an out-of-court settlement, or it could simply mean the trial has been delayed. Right now, all that is known is that the case was pulled from the schedule.

The lawsuit centers on WWE’s 2023 merger with UFC to form TKO Group Holdings. Plaintiffs have argued that WWE was undervalued in the deal, and they are seeking nine figures in damages.

The case had been heading toward trial after plaintiffs filed a 75-page pre-trial brief. That filing put Vince McMahon’s relationship with TKO CEO Ari Emanuel under the microscope, including the claim that McMahon never intended for his July 2022 retirement to be permanent.

Plaintiffs argued that McMahon was already speaking with Emanuel just an hour after announcing his retirement, as Emanuel had interest in acquiring WWE. The filing also claimed McMahon’s legal team was drafting a letter to WWE’s Board of Directors about his return by November 2022.

McMahon later contacted the Board in December 2022 and threatened to block any media rights deal or transaction unless he was brought back. He eventually returned, and WWE later merged with UFC under the TKO banner.

The trial was expected to run for four days with Vice Chancellor J. Travis Laster presiding. Now, that timeline is unclear after the case was removed from the schedule.

This is a major development in a lawsuit that could have big implications for WWE’s sale process, the TKO merger, and how McMahon’s return was handled. Until more information comes out, the reason for the removal remains unknown.
