WWE’s developmental cuts are still rolling, and Wendy Choo is now out.
Sean Ross Sapp revealed on September 4, 2026 that Choo is part of WWE’s latest round of releases, adding another familiar NXT name to a list that already includes Jasper Troy and PJ Vasa.
Choo had been with WWE for years and went through several completely different characters along the way. She originally appeared in NXT as Mei Ying before reinventing herself as the pajama-wearing Wendy Choo in 2022, complete with a pillow, naps and a gimmick built around sleeping wherever she could.
That character got her some pretty big opportunities. Choo challenged Mandy Rose for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT In Your House in 2022 and later went after Kelani Jordan’s NXT Women’s North American Championship at No Mercy in 2024. WWE eventually took Choo in a much darker direction, bringing her back with a more sinister version of the character after a lengthy absence.
Her most recent run had been centered around WWE Evolve. Choo won the Evolve Women’s Championship in April 2026 and held the title until Nikkita Lyons beat her for it on June 24. WWE had also been using Choo on LFG in a player-coach role, giving younger prospects someone with years of developmental experience to work with. Now that run is over.
Choo joins PJ Vasa and Jasper Troy in the same wave of developmental cuts, and WWE appears to still be trimming the NXT system rather than touching the main roster. Wendy Choo survived multiple gimmicks, title programs, long absences and another reinvention before finally landing in Evolve. Now she’s officially back on the market, and with this round of cuts still moving, there may be more names coming.
