Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight might be one of AEW’s most exciting tag teams right now, but it looks like the company could already be setting the stage for them to go their separate ways. Some interesting moments during AEW WrestleDream have Dave Meltzer convinced that a breakup could be coming.

Fletcher and Knight challenged The Young Bucks at AEW WrestleDream on October 17, 2026. The match was packed with crazy moves and near falls, but there were also a couple of moments that might end up meaning a whole lot more down the road.

During the match, Knight accidentally connected with Fletcher while trying to break up a move. The Young Bucks eventually took advantage and picked up the victory after hitting Knight with the BTE Trigger.

On the October 18 edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer praised the match but also pointed out that AEW appeared to be deliberately teasing trouble between Fletcher and Knight. He said it wasn’t just something that happened at WrestleDream, either, because the company had already dropped hints during Dynamite.

“There are two spots in there where teased the future split, which, you know, you can see it coming, and they teased it on Wednesday as well.”

That doesn’t mean a breakup has been officially confirmed, but Meltzer clearly believes AEW is building toward something. Rather than having Fletcher and Knight suddenly turn on each other, the company appears to be using small mistakes and moments of miscommunication to create tension between them. What makes the situation more interesting is how strongly Meltzer praised both men. He believes they’re developing into major stars, especially after their performance against The Young Bucks.

“Three years from now, man, you know, they’ll be two of the top guys in this business.”

Meltzer also had enormous praise for the match itself, calling it one of the greatest tag team matches he’s ever seen.

“That Young Bucks match was legit like one of the greatest tag team matches I’ve ever seen.”

AEW hasn’t announced any plans to separate Fletcher and Knight, and neither wrestler has turned on the other. Still, between the accidental contact at WrestleDream and the earlier television hints, there may be more to their recent problems than a couple of mistakes.

For now, Fletcher and Knight are still together, but AEW might already be laying the groundwork for a major split. If Meltzer is right, that spectacular match against The Young Bucks could eventually be remembered as one of the first signs that things were about to fall apart.

What do you think AEW should do with Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight? Would you rather see them continue as a tag team or eventually face each other in a singles feud? Let us know in the comments below.
