Zoe Hines just officially entered WWE’s developmental system, but a new report is raising serious questions about how that signing came together.
The Boston College softball player was recently introduced as part of WWE NXT’s newest rookie class after her signing was first revealed publicly by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., during an event with Linda McMahon. At the time, it came off like a standard athlete-to-WWE pipeline story. Now comes the report, and it’s a very different story.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said WWE was essentially pushed into signing Hines due to political ties, with both RFK Jr. and McMahon being part of Donald Trump’s cabinet. He said this wasn’t something that came together recently; it had been expected internally for quite a while.
“I certainly heard a lot about Zoe Hines I would say six months ago, and it was very much this is one that was politically forced on them. She's a real athlete, she's a softball player. When she had her tryout, it's not like she knocked them dead or even knocked them even. It was very much said it was a forced hiring because of who she was and because of Robert F. Kennedy and Linda McMahon both being in the cabinet… I had heard people very much dreading knowing this.”
He went even further, stating that within WWE, the signing had been expected for quite some time and wasn’t viewed as a surprise internally, even if the official announcement only came recently.
“As far as like the hiring of her, I would say it was probably known easily a year ago that it was inevitable this would happen… Everyone can approve, you never know, but it was one of those where the people who knew and seen and everything like that had told me it was a hire they were dreading because it was a forced one. Anyway, it's now official but it's been official for a long, long time.”
Those comments directly contrast with how the signing was first presented publicly back in March, when Kennedy casually revealed the news during an event alongside Linda McMahon, even crediting her with helping make the opportunity happen.
So, what looked like a routine signing just got a lot more complicated. Zoe Hines is in WWE, no question, but if this report is accurate, the decision didn’t come down to a normal tryout win. It was happening either way. Now the focus shifts to what happens next. If Hines delivers once training starts, none of this will matter. But until then, this signing is going to come with questions attached.
Do you think Zoe Hines can prove herself in WWE despite this report, or will the “forced signing” label follow her from the start? Let us know in the comments.
