WWE just made Paige’s place on the roster official. After months of technically floating around as a free agent, the former Divas Champion is now officially listed as a SmackDown Superstar.
WWE updated Paige’s profile on its official roster page, moving her onto the SmackDown roster after she spent the majority of her comeback working on the blue brand anyway. The change finally clears up a roster status that had remained strangely open since her return.
Paige made her surprise WWE comeback at WrestleMania 42, stepping in for Nikki Bella and teaming with Brie Bella in a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match. Paige and Brie ended up capturing the titles, immediately putting Paige back into the championship picture after her long absence.
Even after that return, WWE continued listing Paige as a free agent rather than assigning her to Raw or SmackDown. Her actual booking told a different story, because Paige steadily became much more connected to Friday nights.
Paige’s last match on Monday Night Raw came on June 22, when she and Brie successfully defended the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. She hasn’t wrestled on Raw since then and also hasn’t appeared on the show since losing the titles.
The story with Brie eventually went completely off the rails at SummerSlam when the Bella Twins turned on Paige, pushing her further into a singles direction while her television appearances continued to revolve around SmackDown.
Now WWE has finally made the paperwork match what viewers have been seeing on television. Paige is no longer sitting in roster limbo as a free agent. WWE has officially planted her flag on SmackDown, and whatever comes next for her will now play out as a full-fledged member of the blue brand.
