WWE Had An Interesting Choice For Diesel’s WWE Theme Music

Diesel’s WWE entrance music could have been a whole different animal, because Kevin Nash just revealed the company had a much bigger song in mind before the money got in the way.

During a new episode of Klick This, Nash and Sean Oliver got into a conversation about wrestlers doing music, including Vince McMahon’s infamous “Stand Back” performance at the Slammy Awards. Oliver asked Nash if WWE ever tried to get him involved in one of those produced songs, but Nash made it clear Diesel was never headed in that direction.

“You’ve got to realize, I came out to a horn.”

That opened the door for Nash to explain how Diesel’s music changed later on. Nash said once he was champion, WWE added the glass break and gave him a bluesy theme because they wanted something that sounded cooler. Then he dropped the part most fans probably never knew: Diesel was originally supposed to walk out to George Thorogood’s “Bad To The Bone.”

“Later, as I was champion, I had the glass break, and then I had the bluesy one because they wanted something cool. I was supposed to come out to ‘Bad To The Bone.’”

Oliver then asked the obvious question: did WWE skip it because they did not want to pay for the rights? Nash said that was exactly what happened, and the price tag was not small.

“They didn’t want to pay $100,000 for the rights.”

So instead of Diesel getting one of the most recognizable rock songs ever as his entrance music, WWE went with the theme fans remember from that run. Nash also brought up the joke fans have made online about Diesel’s theme sounding a lot like the Roseanne theme song.

“If you’ve ever watched on the internet, they have Diesel come to the ring to the Roseanne theme. I think the Roseanne theme is almost like the Diesel theme.”

Oliver admitted he had never thought of that comparison before, but once Nash said it, the connection made sense. Nash also said he had seen the joke online before, so clearly the Roseanne comparison has stuck with him.

It is pretty wild to think WWE had “Bad To The Bone” sitting there as a real option for Diesel. That song would have fit the big-man attitude, the leather jacket, the shades, and the whole Diesel presentation. Instead, WWE saved the cash and went with something cheaper that still became part of his run.
