Jordynne Grace may finally have a way back onto WWE television, and it could come with someone standing beside her. After months without a regular spot on SmackDown, a new creative direction for Grace is now being discussed.
According to False Finish, WWE has held creative discussions about potentially pairing Grace with Ivy Nile. There’s no word yet on whether the idea has been approved for television, but a Grace-Nile team has at least been on the table.
The timing makes an earlier hint about Grace considerably more interesting. During the September 8 Fightful Select Q&A, Sean Ross Sapp said Grace was at home but had heard WWE could have something coming for her that was unlike what she had been doing before.
“At home. I’d heard they might have something coming up soon. Something categorically different.”
Sapp had also seen Grace at the Pixel Flow event a few weeks earlier. She wasn’t about to give him any clues, but he came away believing WWE could be getting ready to bring her back.
“I saw her at the Pixel Flow event a few weeks ago and she wouldn’t spill the beans. She’s too well behaved for that, man.”
“But I think they could be bringing her back soon. I think so.”
Whether the potential Nile pairing is the “categorically different” idea Sapp heard about hasn’t been confirmed. It would, however, be a major change for Grace after spending most of her WWE run as a singles wrestler.
Grace hasn’t been sidelined by another injury during her recent absence. WrestleVotes previously reported that she was caught in the numbers game when SmackDown returned to two hours, leaving WWE with less television time to spread around its roster. Grace has remained available, working occasional Main Event matches and even traveling to some television tapings without making the show.
An ankle injury had already cost her a major opportunity earlier in the year. WWE planned a WrestleMania 42 Triple Threat that would have seen Grace challenge Women’s United States Champion Tiffany Stratton alongside Giulia, but the injury forced those plans to change.
Grace eventually got healthy, but the big SmackDown return never followed. Now, after months of waiting at home and wondering where she fits, WWE is considering putting two of its strongest women together.
Whether Grace and Nile actually make it to television as a team is another question. For the first time in a while, though, there’s at least a concrete creative idea attached to Grace’s name rather than another explanation for why she isn’t on SmackDown.
