WWE’s Iron Survivor Challenge is missing from NXT’s December schedule, but that apparently doesn’t mean the company is finished with the match. In fact, there’s been some talk about giving the stipulation a much bigger stage — and one current WWE storyline has already been floated as a possible fit.

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, WWE has previously discussed bringing the Iron Survivor Challenge to the main roster. The question has become a lot more interesting now that NXT TLC is replacing NXT Deadline this December, leaving the match without its usual home.

“Following the news that in place of NXT Deadline will be NXT TLC in December, WrestleVotes on Fightful Select asked about the annual Iron Survivor Challenge match that takes place at Deadline and if it could end up as a main roster match type.”

Those conversations apparently aren’t brand new either. A source told WrestleVotes that WWE has discussed potential main-roster use for the match in the past, although its disappearance from this year’s NXT calendar doesn’t necessarily mean that move is suddenly happening.

“That source relayed that the match has been discussed in the past for potential main roster use, but they couldn’t confirm if its absence from this year’s NXT schedule makes that possibility any more likely.”

There is one particularly interesting possibility being thrown around, though. According to the report, a WWE source believes Iron Survivor could work with several stories currently playing out on the main roster — including the Undisputed WWE Championship picture.

“One source indicated that the match type could fit into a few of the current storylines, including the Undisputed WWE Title picture.”

That adds a little more weight to the talk that surfaced earlier this week. During a Q&A on November 2, WrestleVotes noted that Bruce Prichard is a fan of the Iron Survivor concept and floated the possibility of him bringing it to the main roster before his expected retirement.

“I heard a rumor. They like the concept. Bruce Prichard is one of those guys who really likes the concept himself. With him retiring, maybe one more before I go — I’m bringing this to the main roster as my Pat Patterson moment of the Royal Rumble, so we’ll see if that’s something that will happen.”

If WWE does decide to finally pull the trigger, the Undisputed WWE Title scene would certainly be one hell of a way to introduce Iron Survivor to a much larger audience. A match that spent years helping determine NXT championship challengers could suddenly find itself playing a role in one of WWE’s biggest title pictures.
