WWE Adds Title Match To Backlash Card During 5/1 SmackDown

The May 1 episode of WWE SmackDown went down at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. WWE Backlash 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida. During this week’s blue brand, fans saw a new title match added to the card.

Sami Zayn lost the United States Title to Trick Williams at WrestleMania. That wasn’t the end of things, as Sami got revenge by dressing up as the Gingerbread Man. This week, he took out his aggressions on the mascot costume.

In a promo on SmackDown this week, Sami Zayn had the Gingerbread Man costume in the ring. After speaking his mind, Sami attacked the mascot costume, and he laid out the Gingerbread Man. Trick Williams rushed to the ring afterward and gave the medical team the dreaded X.

Trick Williams was then found at the trainer’s office, where he was checking on the Gingerbread Man. He was worried about things, and then he addressed Sami Zayn. Trick said that Sami messed with Trick’s money when he attacked the Gingerbread Man. Then he booked a match at Backlash for the United States Title.

The doctor came out after that, and he indicated to Trick Williams that the Gingerbread Man didn’t make it. Sadly, this is the end of the Gingerbread Man. Only time will tell how things pan out at Backlash.
