The inaugural AEW Redemption pay-per-view took place on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The night included a few title changes, which brought a big focus to the Women’s World Title.
The AEW Women’s World Championship was on the line as Thekla defended her title against former champion Willow Nightingale in one of the featured matches of the evening. This match was the second-to-last contest of the night, making it the main event for the women’s division.
Willow wanted to regain the championship after earning another shot at the title. Meanwhile, Thekla entered the match determined to continue building momentum as champion.
The match featured an even back-and-forth battle, with both women stringing together extended runs of offense as neither competitor was willing to give an inch. Fans were behind both stars, but Willow had a bit more support from the AEW sickos as the match carried on and they wanted to see another title change.
Before the match started, they also showed Mercedes Mone standing in the crowd watching from a box seat. It didn’t take long before Willow used her size advantage to steamroll over Thekla, and fans popped big as she took control.
Thekla eventually took control of the match, and she started to wear Willow down. The spider lady got brutal, as she even bit Willow’s ear to throw her off guard and apply a bit of brutal punishment. Willow survived a string of moves and submission holds to fight back against Thekla.
Willow reversed a charge from Thekla to nail a powerbomb. Then Skye Blue ran down to get Thekla’s foot on the rope. Thekla tried to get the upperhand there, but Willow avoided a stomp and got the roll-up pin for the win to become AEW Women’s World Champion.
