Will Ospreay wants women’s wrestling to get a much bigger spotlight, and he says he is doing more than just talking about it. The AEW World Champion revealed that he regularly sends Pro Wrestling EVE matches to Tony Khan, and that connection directly helped his wife Alex Windsor land an opportunity with AEW.

Ospreay discussed his involvement with EVE during an interview with WPRK 91.5 FM. The conversation started with Clockwork Carnage, which Ospreay helped develop and initially tested through EVE before bringing the concept to AEW.

That led to a discussion about whether Ospreay could continue using EVE as a place to experiment with new wrestling ideas. Ospreay said he enjoys trying things that haven’t been done before, but made it clear there is also a bigger reason he wants to stay involved.

“I enjoy being creative and I enjoy anytime that I get to try and think of something new or something that hasn’t been done before. Like, yeah, I’ll happily trial it on EVE because although, like, it keeps growing, we’re a lot, like, of a smaller reach to other promotions.”

Ospreay then explained that one of his biggest goals is helping women’s wrestling grow.

“For me personally, like, my whole thing is just, like, I really want to push women’s wrestling as far as it physically can go because it’s undersold and it’s one of these things that have been underappreciated for so long.”

Ospreay said he enjoys being part of EVE because of the wrestlers involved and the opportunity it gives them to get noticed. He then revealed that AEW has been supportive of what the promotion is doing, to the point where he personally sends matches to Tony Khan.

“I just generally enjoy being a part of something that, like, the girls are super grateful for, for, like, the team and everything. And then it always is good that AEW is, like, fully supportive of it. Like, I mean, the amount of times I’ll send Tony, like, an EVE match.”

That is where Ospreay dropped the biggest detail. He said Khan seeing Alex Windsor wrestle Jamie Hayter through EVE is what led to Windsor getting brought into AEW.

“I mean, that’s how my wife Alex got signed, is because Tony saw the match with Jamie Hayter that they done, first time they ever met one another, let alone wrestle one another, and he saw that and was just kind of like, ‘All right, I’ll bring her in.’”

Ospreay said he is grateful that EVE can now serve as another doorway for women who have spent years grinding for opportunities.

“And I think she’s great and, like, I’m so grateful for that because it’s one of these things where now we can sell to all of these girls who have been busting their ass off for so long and it’s like now time for them to be like, look, this is how the doorway can open. Like, if the door opens, like, kick it down, bro.”

Ospreay is clearly using his position in AEW to do more than worry about his own matches. He sees EVE as a place where women can get opportunities, prove themselves and potentially put their work directly in front of Tony Khan, and Alex Windsor is already proof that the pathway can work.

What do you think about Will Ospreay pushing to give women’s wrestling more opportunities through Pro Wrestling EVE? Do you think AEW should scout more talent from promotions like EVE? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
