Will Ospreay is getting tired of hearing Cody Rhodes ask wrestling fans what they want to talk about before “Kingdom” even finishes playing. The AEW star picked Rhodes’ old WWE theme over his current song and made it clear that “Kingdom” is starting to wear out its welcome.
During a rapid-fire entrance-theme discussion with SHAK Wrestling, Ospreay was asked to choose between “Smoke and Mirrors” and “Kingdom.” There was no hesitation before he picked Cody’s former WWE song and admitted he has had enough of the current one.
“Smoke and Mirrors. The ‘Kingdom’ thing is wearing off on me now. I’m a little bit like, ‘All right, I’m over this shit now.’”
That choice comes with an interesting twist because Ospreay has actually met the band behind “Kingdom.” He said members of Downstait approached him while they were all drinking on Chris Jericho’s cruise and offered to create a song for him.
“Do you want honesty as well? I feel like the song guys were on the Jericho Cruise, and they came up to me while they were clearly intoxicated—and so was I—and were just kind of like, ‘Hey, if you want a song, hit us up.’”
Ospreay passed on the offer. He had nothing against the band, but he saw no reason to dump “Elevated” when the song already fits him perfectly.
“Mate, ‘Elevated’ is a banger. I feel like they put it out there to be like, ‘Hey, we’ll write you a song,’ and I politely declined.”
“Kingdom” remains one of the most recognizable entrance songs in wrestling, but Ospreay clearly believes it has been played enough. He is sticking with “Elevated” and would rather hear Cody bring back “Smoke and Mirrors.”
