Will Ospreay has done some of the wildest aerial stuff in wrestling, but apparently, spinning in a circle on live TV is where things got dangerous.
While speaking to KRON 4, Ospreay addressed his awkward fall during the June 24 edition of AEW Dynamite, and he was laughing right along with everyone else. The AEW star said he still could not believe it happened, especially because his whole reputation is built around landing on his feet after insane moves. This time, though, he somehow tripped over himself in the middle of a live segment.
“Bro, I couldn’t believe that. Like, I have made a name for myself from landing on my feet. I can’t spin three times in a circle without tripping over me own feet, mate.”
The fall got even funnier because Ospreay said the people around him did not exactly rush in like superheroes. After hitting the ground, he looked over at Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Claudio Castagnoli and wondered why nobody was helping him back up.
“You definitely sat there like — and Jon and Wheeler and Claudio looked at me. I was like, ‘None of you guys are going to help me up?’”
Luckily for Ospreay, Marina Shafir came through when the guys did not. He said she was the one who actually helped him up, and he joked that she clearly understood the assignment while everyone else just watched the chaos unfold: “Yeah. But Marina helped me up. Marina did it. Like, she understood.”
The best part, according to Ospreay, was the timing. The whole segment was literally about getting back up after being knocked down, and then he immediately fell down in front of everyone. You cannot script that kind of live TV disaster any better.
“And that was the funny bit about it. He was saying like, ‘Whenever you get knocked down, we get back up.’ And I fell down. Perfect day. Live TV.”
So, Will Ospreay can flip, fly, land on his feet, and make crowds lose their minds, but apparently one little spin can still take him out. At least he is taking the whole thing in stride, because in wrestling, sometimes the botch becomes the best part of the segment.
What did you think of Will Ospreay laughing off his Dynamite fall? Was it just a funny live TV moment, or did it somehow make the segment even better? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
