Zack Amico has become a familiar voice for JCW, but fans may have noticed he isn’t behind the commentary desk for every show. According to Amico, the reason is pretty simple — travel logistics and his full-time comedy schedule make it tough to be there for every date.
Amico explained the situation during an appearance on Jasmin St. Claire’s Off the Rails podcast after a viewer asked why he works such limited dates for JCW. He made it clear there is no issue with the promotion and pointed instead to the fact that many JCW shows take place in the middle of the country while he lives in Brooklyn.
“Honestly, it’s — they do a lot of the shows in the middle of the country. I live out here in Brooklyn and I completely understand the other people have — they can drive there and I can’t. I’m a whole extra plane ticket both ways.”
Travel isn’t the only factor. Amico is also a full-time touring comedian, and when those bookings overlap with JCW, he has to honor the work already on his schedule.
“I also — I’m a touring comedian and they don’t always have dates for me prepared. I wish I could work both. I wish both schedules could work, but sometimes if I have a weekend of one-nighters or a whole weekend at a club, A, it would be financially irresponsible and B, it would be rude to the people that booked me to go say, ‘Oh, I’m going to go be silly and have fun with my wrestler friends.’”
Amico then summed up the situation by stressing that comedy is how he makes his living.
“I am a professional. I don’t have a — as some of the old-timers say, ‘I ain’t got no work job. I ain’t got no shoot job.’ I’m a comedian full-time, so I gotta unfortunately go make the bacon and entertain drunks in a box.”
So for fans wondering why Amico isn’t at every JCW event, it doesn’t sound like there’s any drama behind the scenes. It comes down to geography, travel costs and a comedy career that already keeps him on the road.
