The WWE shareholder lawsuit appears to be headed toward a settlement after all, which is why it was ultimately cancelled.
After the trial was removed from the Delaware Court of Chancery calendar, a new report has revealed why the case is no longer moving forward. According to Brandon Thurston, Court Administrator Tamara Burton confirmed that the parties have reached an agreement in principle, leading to the cancellation of the trial that was scheduled to begin this week: “Burton this afternoon tells me the parties have reached an agreement in principle.”
That’s not all, as Tamara Burton also confirmed that the cancellation was requested by the parties involved and that the settlement will now be presented to the court for approval at a later date.
“At the parties’ request, the trial is cancelled. The parties have advised the court that they will present the settlement for approval in due course.”
This brings a sudden end to what was shaping up to be a closely watched legal battle over WWE’s 2023 merger with UFC to form TKO Group Holdings. The lawsuit alleged that WWE was undervalued in the transaction and named the likes of Vince McMahon, Nick Khan, Paul Levesque, George Barrios, and Michelle Wilson as defendants.
The plaintiffs also claimed Vince McMahon pushed WWE toward a deal with Endeavor while preventing other potential bidders, including KKR and Liberty Media, from participating in a fair sale process.
A pre-trial filing had already drawn a ton of attention by focusing on McMahon’s return to WWE after his 2022 retirement and his relationship with Ari Emanuel. The plaintiffs alleged that McMahon never intended his retirement to be permanent and used his influence to regain power during the sale process.
Now, however, those issues will not be litigated in court this week. Instead, the focus shifts to the settlement agreement and whether the court ultimately approves it. While the exact terms have not been disclosed, this report makes one thing clear: the trial is over before it ever began.
