Sol Ruca’s big title win over Becky Lynch wasn’t just a random shocker — WWE had a good reason for pulling the trigger.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ruca beating Lynch for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship at Clash in Italy was largely expected because of how she had been booked since arriving on the main roster.
“The only title change on the show saw Ruca beat Lynch to win the IC title, which was largely expected given Ruca had been booked so poorly since her debut.”
Meltzer noted that the rough booking was part of the idea, as WWE had Ruca win the championship after having zero main roster wins: “And that was partially the idea since she’d win it after having zero wins on the main roster.”
Ruca previously revealed that after the match, she got the usual Triple H photo and “point” backstage before doing interviews and post-show duties. She later celebrated with names like Bayley and Lyra Valkyria, saying the moment made her feel like she was “here to stay.”
Ruca’s title win now makes more sense with this update. WWE may have had her struggle early, but the payoff was a major championship victory over Becky Lynch, instantly changing how she is viewed on the main roster.
