Max Caster ended up answering Moose’s open challenge at Bound For Glory, but a new report says the situation involving Sheamus wasn’t quite what many fans believed.
According to Fightful Select, TNA did reach out to Sheamus about potentially appearing at Bound For Glory. However, the outlet says it wasn’t a case of the company choosing between Sheamus and Max Caster.
Instead, Sheamus had simply not committed to the booking. As of about two weeks before the event, there was still no agreement in place for him to appear. Fightful also noted another major factor: money. The report says the asking price between Sheamus and Caster was vastly different, making the situations difficult to compare.
That adds a lot more context to earlier reports suggesting Sheamus was TNA’s original choice. While the company was interested in bringing the former WWE Champion in, Fightful says it wasn’t as simple as Sheamus turning the spot down and TNA immediately pivoting to Caster.
Of course, Caster ultimately accepted the open challenge, but his TNA run lasted just one night after his controversial Riyadh entrance rap led to immediate backlash. TNA later removed footage of the entrance, issued a public apology and announced that Caster would no longer wrestle for the promotion.
With this update, it sounds like Sheamus was always on TNA’s radar, but the company was never choosing one over the other. In the end, the financial side of things and the lack of a commitment from Sheamus opened the door for Caster to make his short-lived TNA debut.
