Max Caster may have been the one who showed up at TNA Bound For Glory, but he apparently wasn’t the first name TNA wanted for the spot.

According to False Finish, Sheamus was the primary name the company had been considering before Caster ended up appearing.

“Before Max Caster accepted Moose’s open challenge, sources indicate to False Finish that Sheamus (Stephen Farrelly) was the primary name that TNA was considering for the spot at #TNA Bound For Glory.”

That changes the way Caster’s appearance looks in hindsight. Instead of being the main plan from the start, he appears to have landed in a spot TNA had first looked at for Sheamus. Caster’s debut then went bad almost immediately. During his entrance freestyle, he rapped:

“I drop bombs, you don’t even have to fly to Riyadh.”

The line came one day after the deadly attack at King Khalid International Airport and quickly drew backlash. It later confirmed that TNA did not script or approve the lyric. After that, things moved fast. TNA removed the video of Caster’s entrance from social media, while fans called for the company to take action. Sources also later said TNA was done working with Caster.

Now the Sheamus detail makes the whole thing even more interesting. TNA was apparently looking at a major WWE name for the spot, pivoted to Max Caster, and then watched his debut turn into a controversy almost immediately.

It remains unclear how close Sheamus actually came to appearing or why the idea didn’t happen, but one thing is clear: Max Caster was not TNA’s first choice.
