Mercedes Moné wasn’t originally expected to be in action while recovering from a broken nose, but according to a new report, sitting out AEW’s tribute to PAC was never an option in her mind.
During the September 30 “A Tribute to PAC” edition of AEW Dynamite, Moné competed alongside Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. and Persephone in a trios match against Thunder Rosa, Hyan, and Marina Shafir. Despite still dealing with a broken nose, Moné wrestled throughout the match, helping her team before the bout ultimately ended with Marina Shafir forcing Britt Baker to tap out with the Brutalizer.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there was a specific reason Moné still competed despite the injury. Meltzer reported that Moné personally insisted on wrestling during the PAC tribute show rather than sitting the event out. The report indicates that the decision came from Moné herself, who wanted to be part of the special tribute event despite not being fully healthy.
Moné has continued to work through the broken nose in recent weeks, but the PAC tribute show carried extra significance for the entire AEW roster as the company honored the late PAC throughout the night with tributes, video packages and matches dedicated to his memory.
Bottom line: While many injured wrestlers would likely have opted to stay on the sidelines, the report made it clear that Moné felt being part of AEW’s tribute to PAC was important enough to compete anyway.
