Roman Reigns still has Penta standing directly in front of him, but WWE apparently hasn’t forgotten about LA Knight when it comes to Money in the Bank.
Penta earned a World Heavyweight Championship match against Reigns after defeating Rey Fenix, setting up their showdown on the September 14 episode of RAW in Mexico City. The hometown setting immediately created speculation about whether WWE could pull the trigger on a massive Penta upset.
That possibility came up during WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, where TC floated the idea of OTM interfering against Reigns and helping Penta leave Mexico City as World Heavyweight Champion. Joey Votes wasn’t buying it, especially with Roman still expected to be part of Money in the Bank. When TC suggested WWE could potentially take Reigns off television after the Mexico City match, Joey pointed back to plans WrestleVotes had previously discussed.
“The summer, scheduled for Money in the Bank. We reported that.”
TC acknowledged that Roman is expected to wrestle on the show, which led Joey to bring LA Knight back into the picture.
“The discussions with him and LA Knight. So unless they have changed those plans…”
That last part matters. WrestleVotes wasn’t announcing Reigns vs. Knight as a locked match, but there also wasn’t any indication during the discussion that WWE had abandoned the direction.
Ringside News previously reported that Reigns vs. Knight was being seriously considered for Money in the Bank, with a strong internal feeling at the time that the World Heavyweight Championship match would happen.
Knight has already made it clear that he wants Reigns one-on-one without The Bloodline, cousins or anyone else getting involved. Their issues have continued on RAW, including a face-to-face confrontation during the August 31 episode before the chaos involving Royce Keys, OTM and The Usos took over the show.
Reigns still has to get through Penta in Mexico City before anything involving LA Knight can move forward. Penta winning the championship would blow the entire picture apart, but even the WrestleVotes crew admitted they have a hard time seeing WWE make that call with Roman’s Money in the Bank plans still hanging over everything.
For now, LA Knight remains a name to watch once Roman Reigns is finished dealing with Penta. WWE can always change course, but unless that happens, the road to Money in the Bank may still lead right back to Reigns and Knight finally settling their business.
