Russo could never understand how Heyman convinced his talents to go out there and risk their lives for him and ECW on a weekly basis. Vito says that while he worked for ECW, Heyman didn’t have to convince the roster to do anything. Heyman was a terrific motivator and he created an environment for everyone to succeed, and this led to the development of a group mentality where everyone strived to beat WWE and WCW.
Vito adds that the roster was very tight-knit and was full of talent. Looking back now, the roster was stacked with future Stars who went on to bigger and better things in WWE and WCW liked Tazz, RVD, Tommy Dreamer and more.
Russo points out that his relationship with Heyman went sideways shortly after Heyman made an agreement to swap talent with Vince McMahon. Russo told McMahon to ask Heyman for The Dudley Boyz, but Heyman responded by saying that The Dudleys weren’t interested in working any WWE shows. Russo told McMahon that was a lie, and shortly after The Dudleys contacted Russo personally confirming this.
