MVP is opening up about what it was really like working under Vince McMahon in WWE — and according to him, things backstage could become chaotic fast depending on Vince’s mood.

While speaking with RVD, MVP discussed his frustrations with McMahon and claimed that Vince would sometimes give clear instructions, only to later criticize people for following those exact directions. MVP said the reaction depended on the moment, because Vince could love something one minute and then explode over it later.

“Vince, you never knew. Sometimes like, ‘God damn it, that’s great.’ And other times Vince would go, ‘Who’s the f****** producer for this s***? Who the f*** did that?’ Like, well, Vince, you told me to tell them to do that. ‘No, I didn’t.’ Okay. No, you didn’t. All right, Vince. Cool.”*

MVP explained that McMahon’s authority was absolute in WWE. If Vince liked an idea, he would approve it and move forward. If he didn’t, the idea was dead immediately.

“Vince was the end all be all. His word was final. And if you pitched an idea and he liked it, he would give you credit and go, ‘Yeah, yeah, that’s a good idea. Let’s go with that.’ And if he didn’t, it was just like, ‘No, we don’t like that.’”

The issue, according to MVP, was not always a lack of direction. He said the direction could be very clear, but the problem came when Vince later forgot what he had told people to do.

“You had clear direction. It was just sometimes he would forget what he directed me to do.”

MVP said he believes any former WWE producer could tell a similar story about following Vince’s orders and then getting chewed out because Vince didn’t remember giving them.

“I bet my life anyone who has ever been a producer can tell you a story where Vince clearly told them to do something and they did what they were told, and then Vince would forget that he told them to do that and cuss them out for doing what he told him to do.”

MVP also described McMahon as someone who could lose his temper quickly, but then move on like nothing happened shortly afterward.

“He was a yeller. He’d lose his cool and he would yell at you and then 30 minutes later, it’s like that s** never happened. He would talk, everything was fine.”*

MVP’s comments paint a familiar picture of WWE under McMahon, where creative direction could change quickly and backstage tension often came with the job. For MVP, the biggest frustration was not just being yelled at, but being blamed for doing exactly what he had been told to do.
