WWE Hall of Famer Kane might be considering a move to the U.S. Senate, but one sitting senator has already made it clear where his wrestling loyalty stands. Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego isn’t picking WWE in this situation. He’s an AEW guy.

The unexpected wrestling exchange started on November 7 when someone on social media shared a GIF of Rey Mysterio beating up Kane, whose real name is Glenn Jacobs. The post joked about what might happen if Gallego ever encountered the former WWE star on the Senate floor. The caption read:

“ruben gallego when he sees glenn jacobs on the senate floor.”

Gallego didn’t ignore the joke. Instead, he responded directly on Twitter with a short message that made his wrestling preference perfectly clear.

“I am more of an @AEW man.”

The exchange comes at an interesting time for Jacobs, who recently finished his eight-year run as mayor of Knox County, Tennessee. His second term ended in September 2026, but his political career might not be finished.

Jacobs has emerged as a potential candidate to fill the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Marsha Blackburn, who won Tennessee’s gubernatorial election. The former WWE star has been mentioned among the possible replacements, although no appointment has been announced.

That possibility is what made the original social media joke relevant in the first place. If Jacobs ends up joining the Senate, Gallego could find himself working alongside the man wrestling audiences spent decades watching as The Big Red Machine.

Of course, Gallego’s response didn’t address Jacobs’ political future or suggest any actual confrontation. He simply used the opportunity to declare his preference for AEW, turning a joke involving two WWE legends into an unexpected mention of Tony Khan’s wrestling promotion.

For now, Kane’s potential move to Washington remains undecided, but Gallego has already made his wrestling allegiance known. Whether the two politicians ever end up sharing the Senate floor is another matter entirely.

What do you think about Senator Ruben Gallego declaring himself an AEW guy, and would you like to see Kane make another appearance in WWE before potentially heading to the Senate? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
