The Sammy Guevara story that blew up across wrestling social media this week? Turns out it never should have happened in the first place.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Live, Bryan Alvarez revealed he’d been told the entire rumor started because fans made one wrong assumption after Guevara tweeted, “New bio.” People clicked on his profile, noticed AEW wasn’t listed, and immediately concluded he’d removed it. The problem? Alvarez says there was nothing to remove.
“I was told that this is 100%. So the reason this whole story happened was because somebody noticed that he had removed AEW from his bio.”
He explained that Guevara’s “New bio” tweet sent fans looking at his profile, where they saw no mention of AEW and assumed something had changed.
“So what happened was, he tweeted ‘New bio,’ and somebody went up there, looked at his bio, saw there was no AEW mentioned in it, and then they spread around the internet that he had ‘removed’ AEW from his bio.”
Alvarez says that’s where the rumor took off. Fans began speculating that Guevara wanted out of AEW or had already secured his release—all because they believed he’d quietly scrubbed the company from his profile. But Alvarez says that’s not what happened.
“I have been told that he never had AEW in his bio. AEW was never removed from his bio. Someone thought he had removed it from his bio, which is why this whole story came out that he wanted out or had gotten his release.”
In other words, nothing actually changed. The only thing that changed was what people thought they were seeing. As Alvarez put it:
“So really, nothing has changed at all over the last week. So that’s the update.”
So after days of fans trying to connect the dots, there were never any dots to connect. The entire rumor that Guevara had quietly scrubbed AEW from his profile—and was possibly on his way out of the company—appears to have started because people assumed something had been removed that was never there in the first place.
