Brock Lesnar says he’s finished, and Triple H just added more fuel to the retirement talk with a public message that felt a whole lot like a farewell. The WWE Chief Content Officer took to Twitter on August 8 and simply wrote, “Thank you, Brock.”
Triple H included a four-photo collage showing Lesnar across different eras of his WWE career, including moments with Paul Heyman, championship gold and face-to-face encounters with Triple H himself.
“Thank you, Brock.”
The post comes just days after Lesnar announced that he was retiring from professional wrestling following his Hell in a Cell loss to Oba Femi at SummerSlam. Lesnar made his retirement sound final during a FaceTime appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, saying SummerSlam was the end of the road for him.
“I’m here today to let the world know that I am retired, and I wanted to say a big thank you to everybody. Saturday was a very emotional day for me. The business—and I still had some fuel in the tank. But Saturday, that’s it for me in the squared circle and for everything else too.”
WWE has also moved Lesnar back to the alumni section of its website and aired another career retrospective on RAW, which only adds to the feeling that the company is treating this as a legitimate retirement. Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean the Brock Lesnar story is over.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select previously stated that high-ranking WWE officials still believe Lesnar could be involved with WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia in some capacity. If another match doesn’t happen, the idea of Lesnar headlining the WWE Hall of Fame has also been discussed. One source also questioned whether Lesnar would really walk away before taking one more massive Saudi Arabia payday.
“Despite Lesnar stating he is finished in the ring, we’re told there are high-ranking officials still within WWE who believe he’ll be involved in WrestleMania 43 in some capacity.”
“With the right set of circumstances and the right dollar figure, we can probably get Brock back for one more.”
Triple H’s message doesn’t confirm anything beyond a public thank-you, but the timing is impossible to ignore. WWE is clearly presenting Lesnar’s retirement seriously right now, even while people inside the company still believe WrestleMania 43 could bring him back into the picture.
If this really is the end, “Thank you, Brock” may be Triple H’s way of closing the book. If not, it could end up looking very different once WrestleMania season rolls around.
