Triple H had a simple message after CM Punk walked out of Chicago as the new Undisputed WWE Champion.
After RAW, Triple H posted a photo on Instagram with Punk holding the title, and he made sure to point out the obvious callback. Punk won the WWE Title in the same building 15 years ago, and now he did it again.
“Same building, 15 years later. Different opponent, same result. @cmpunk is the Undisputed @WWE Champion!!! #AndNew”
That was all Triple H needed to say. The message tied Punk’s new title win right back to Money in the Bank 2011, when Punk beat John Cena in Chicago and left with the WWE Championship. This time, Punk beat Sami Zayn after stepping into the main event as Cody Rhodes’ replacement. The match gave Chicago another major Punk title moment, and Triple H clearly knew WWE had a full-circle moment on its hands.
Triple H didn’t need a long caption to sell the moment. CM Punk won the top title in Chicago again, 15 years later, and WWE leaned straight into the history.
