The Rock and Triple H’s past tension is back in the conversation, and Jonathan Coachman has now offered a much sharper take on what he believes is really behind it.

Fans have debated for years whether The Rock and Triple H had real issues during the Attitude Era. D’Lo Brown previously described it as competitive heat between two rising stars fighting for the same top spot in WWE, rather than pure personal hatred. However, while speaking on 2 Count Tuesday, Jonathan Coachman claimed there is still real tension between The Rock and Triple H, even if both men publicly say they respect each other.

“Why don’t you think, JD, people believe me when I say that Triple H and The Rock, as much as they say on Unreal, ‘Oh, we respect each other,’ they do not. Triple H wants to be what The Rock is.”

JD then suggested The Rock may not want to give Triple H the credit of having a major Rock moment happen under his WWE leadership: “If Rock wants to do it, he’s going to do it. I feel like if Rock wanted to do it, he’d do it. The reason why he’s not going to do it is because he doesn’t want Triple H to have that on his resume that it happened in his administration or under his leadership.”

Jonathan Coachman then claimed the issue goes beyond wrestling. He said Triple H wanted to become a movie star, but The Rock went on to achieve the Hollywood success Triple H once wanted for himself, making it clear it’s a case of jealousy.

“Do you know the other reason why there’s so much this with these two? And I was there for this too, JD. I was there. I was in the room with 10 people. That’s it. Triple H wanted to be a movie star. He did not make any bones about it. And when he was in Blade 3, that was his first major motion picture… That’s what he wanted. And as much as he wants to run the WWE, JD, think about it. Rock, John Cena, now Roman, Cody, MJF, they’re all movie stars. There is a gigantic jealousy component to this whole thing. I’ll give Triple H his flowers in wrestling. But when you live a long career and a long life, you want to expand. And he’s never been allowed to do that. So his whole legacy is wrestling. And I believe it eats at him. I really, really do. And that’s not a criticism of him because I want to be in movies too. We all do. It just never happened for him.”

Coachman’s comments paint the situation as more than an old Attitude Era rivalry. In his view, The Rock became the global crossover star Triple H once wanted to be, and that success may still be a source of tension between them.

The Rock and Triple H have both built massive legacies in WWE, but Coachman clearly believes their relationship is not as friendly behind the scenes as it may seem in public. Whether fans agree with him or not, his latest claim gives the long-running debate another major talking point.

What do you think about Jonathan Coachman’s claim that jealousy plays a role in Triple H and The Rock’s tension? Do you believe there is still real heat between them? Let us know your thoughts and feedback in the comments below.
