Tony Schiavone has been around the wrestling business long enough to know exactly what happens when you start reading everything people say about you online — so he basically doesn’t bother. The AEW announcer revealed that his daughter handles his social media while he stays far away from wrestling discourse, online critics, and whatever writers happen to be saying about him.
While discussing his second run in professional wrestling with the Battleground podcast, Schiavone explained that scrolling through social media simply isn’t part of his daily routine. Outside of occasionally posting about his dogs, he leaves most of that world alone.
“I really don’t stay on social media at all. My daughter does my social media for me. And I ignore it with the exception of on Instagram. I will post my dogs or on Facebook. I’ll go back on Facebook to see how many people from my high school graduating class are still alive.”
Schiavone then cracked a pretty dark joke about what actually gets him checking Facebook these days.
“Let’s see who’s died this week. Oh my God.”
That pretty much tells you where wrestling arguments rank on his priority list. Schiavone has been praised, criticized, debated and picked apart by wrestling fans and media for decades, but he made it clear he isn’t sitting around consuming any of it. He also admitted that he doesn’t spend much time keeping tabs on wrestling writers or reading what they think about his work.
“But I don’t really follow the writers or what they have to say.”
That approach is probably a lot easier when you’ve already lived through WCW, the Monday Night Wars, years away from wrestling and then an entirely unexpected second career with AEW. Schiavone has heard just about every opinion imaginable at this point, but apparently most of those opinions never even make it onto his screen.
