Darby Allin has built his entire reputation around doing things most wrestlers wouldn’t even consider attempting, but Tony Khan admits there was one moment that genuinely made him question whether Darby fully understood the danger involved.

While speaking to ESPN, the AEW President opened up about allowing wrestlers the freedom to live their lives outside the ring and explained why he generally trusts Darby despite the constant risks attached to his style.

Khan pointed out that professional wrestling has no real offseason, unlike other sports, and most wrestlers typically use their free time to recover or spend time with family instead of doing anything physically dangerous. Even with Darby’s reputation for insane stunts and brutal bumps, Khan said he usually believes the former TNT Champion understands exactly what he’s doing.

“I trust Darby because his risks are calculated and he respects danger.”

However, Khan admitted there was one major exception that made him seriously stop and think. That moment came during Sting’s final match in AEW when Darby launched himself off a ladder and crashed through a sheet of glass in one of the wildest visuals of the entire night. According to Khan, that was the only time he truly questioned whether Darby respected the risk attached to what he was doing.

“Except that time with Sting when he went through the glass. That’s the only time I questioned if he respected the risk he was taking.”

Darby has become one of AEW’s most fearless performers since the company launched, routinely throwing himself into dangerous situations inside and outside the ring. Whether it’s coffin drops off ladders, dives through glass, or climbing Mount Everest in his personal life, the former TNT Champion constantly pushes limits few wrestlers are willing to test.

Still, even by Darby Allin standards, the glass spot during Sting’s retirement match clearly crossed a line in Tony Khan’s mind.
