Tony Khan has now revealed what Mick Foley will actually be doing in AEW, and for now, the focus is not on an in-ring return.
While speaking during the AEW Double or Nothing media call, Khan was asked about Foley’s role in the company. Khan said AEW is currently focused on using Foley as a broadcaster and made it clear he does not want to put pressure on Foley to wrestle. Khan explained that he cannot say whether Foley will ever step back into the ring, but that is not the current plan.
Khan also said he does not want Foley placed in a position where he feels like he has to wrestle just because people are asking about it. Instead, Foley’s current AEW role will be focused on commentary and broadcast work.
According to Khan, Foley has also expressed interest in helping AEW moving forward, which suggests his Double or Nothing appearance may not be a one-off. Khan revealed that Foley is expected to be part of all AEW pay-per-views going forward, along with select television appearances.
The Hardcore Legend had already confirmed on Instagram that he will make his AEW debut during the Double or Nothing Buy In pre-show alongside Renee Paquette.
“FOLEY IS ALL ELITE! I am extremely happy to be making my debut with @aew – joining @reneepaquette on the #DoubleOrNothing pre-show.”
Foley also said he is looking forward to reconnecting with Khan after many years and meeting AEW’s roster.
“Looking forward to seeing @tonyrkhan for the first time in many years (we had lunch fifteen years ago) and meeting up with AEW’s amazing roster.”
Foley’s AEW debut is a major moment because he has never previously appeared for the company despite years of speculation. Now, Khan’s comments make it clear AEW has a broader role in mind for him, even if that role is not inside the ring.
