Chris Jericho wasn’t even in the building, but Tommaso Ciampa still spent several minutes ripping him apart on AEW Collision.
During the May 30 episode, Ciampa borrowed one of Jericho’s most famous ideas from his WCW days and turned it against him. Longtime wrestling fans will remember Jericho’s legendary WCW feud with Dean Malenko in 1998. During that rivalry, Jericho famously unveiled a list of “1,004 Holds,” mocking Malenko while rattling off ridiculous submission names that became one of the most memorable comedy segments of his career.
Nearly three decades later, Ciampa dusted off the concept and gave it a new twist. Instead of listing wrestling holds, Ciampa presented what was essentially a “1,004 Reasons I Hate Chris Jericho” list.
With Jericho absent from the show, Ciampa stood in the ring and began unloading on the AEW veteran, drawing laughs from the crowd as he worked through a growing collection of complaints.
Among the targets were Jericho’s hair, his band Fozzy, Jericho’s arm bars, and seemingly anything else Ciampa could think of. The longer the segment went, the more absurd the list became, which only made the audience enjoy it even more.
The irony wasn’t lost on fans either. Jericho built part of his wrestling legacy by humiliating opponents with the original 1,004 Holds routine. This time, he found himself on the receiving end of the joke. Ciampa clearly enjoyed every second of it.
Before exiting the ring, Ciampa made sure the message was clear. After spending the entire segment roasting Jericho, he issued one final warning and made it known that their issues aren’t going away anytime soon.
